Technical Stuff
1.What
microchip is the Neo 2/2.2 based on and how many wires ?
How Does The Mod Chip Work?
The mod chip simply takes over the booting system that
the playstation uses to authenticate playstation games. Playstation
originals have an un-burnable code written on them that tells the
playstation it is a legitimate game. When the playstation
"looks" for the code on the disk, the chip re-routes the
search to itself where it delivers the code that the playstation wants
then "tells" the playstation to continue loading the game. All
you need to do is put in a copy or import game, and turn on the
playstation, that's it! your back-ups will boot normally
How Does the Game Hunter Work?
The game hunter conveniently plugs into your playstation
through the parallel port on the back of the console. {NOTE: MODEL
NUMBER SCPH-9001 DOES NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED PARALLEL PORT FOR GAME
HUNTER. YOU CAN PURCHASE AN UPGRADE KIT
FROM OUR SITE OR SIMPLY INSTALL A MOD CHIP INSTEAD} The Game Hunter solves a problem for anyone who
doesn't want to void their factory warranty by installing a mod chip.
The game hunter uses a very simple swap technique, in which first you
insert a spring {Provided by Nitsur} into the lid of the
playstation, this allows you to leave the lid open without the unit
"knowing". Next you plug in the game hunter and make
sure the switch on it is in the up position. Then power on the unit with
ANY black bottomed playstation original {it can even be some demo game}.
The disk will soon stop spinning. When it does simply replace the
original with any copied backup game and press start to begin. Your
back-up will boot normally!
Will The Mod
Chip Work With All Games?
99% of games that we tried have successfully played on
the playstation with a mod chip installed. This is really a remarkable
record, considering the amount of money spent by game developers each
year to come up with new ways to defeat the chip! Our chips Are the
newest stealth VIII version that are capable of shutting themselves down
when anti-mod protections, search for them.
Can I install a Mod
Chip Myself?
Can you follow instructions? Do you know some basic soldering techniques?
Then the answer is YES! If you are not familiar with soldering, you should NOT attempt to install a chip on
your own, As some of the points are very close together and it is easy
to "slop" solder onto parts that could potentially Fry your
unit!
Where Can I
find Instructions for installing the chip?
We will be adding detailed instructions to our site soon
that will provide easy to follow steps, and color photos of where each
wire is to be soldered.
"So do I need a chip or
a Game hunter to play back-ups?"
Either one will work fine, most people prefer the simplicity of installing an internal mod chip but both will do the job!
Does installing the Mod Chip
void my Sony Warranty?
Yes! Installation of a mod chip will automatically void
any remaining manufacture warranty! Be sure you are ok with this before
purchasing a mod chip!
Do I get any kind of Money Back
Guarantee?
Of Course you do, If you are not completely satisfied
with any of our products, you can simply return them and we will give
you a full refund, no questions asked! If you had a mod chip installed
by us and it isn't functioning properly send us your unit and we will
replace the chip or remove it and refund your money! Even if you tried
to install it yourself and messed it up by melting wires or whatever,
send it back and we'll replace the chip for free. {However, your
Playstation may also need replacing at that point!}
Help My copies won't
Boot
Often times people experience trouble getting their
back-ups to boot. People automatically assume the chip is not
functioning. The fact is 99% of the time the chip is fine but the
back-up is no good! If you cant get your copies to boot but your
originals do, here are a few things to double check
1. make sure you are recording on CD-R media and not CD-RW, Re-writable
disks will not play in the playstation.
2. Be sure the disks you are recording on are good quality disks
3. Make sure you are recording in DAO {disk at once} mode rather than
track at once.
If you have checked all these things and you still can't get it to work
please contact one of us and we will try to help you through your
problem, or if necessary replace the defective chip.
copies freeze after they boot or
game play seems abnormal
If your back-up games freeze after they load or the game
runs choppy, this is definitely caused by a bad burn. Try re-burning a
new copy and be sure you are using a good quality disk, Try slowing down
your burn speed, sometimes fast burners skip a track or two causing a
corrupted CD.
All of the Sudden No games
Work
This is probably caused by a dirty laser eye. Try
blowing on the laser or using a CD cleaner. If you don't have one
available you can try rubbing the laser eye with a soft cloth. DO NOT
use a shirt or paper-towel to wipe the lens as these materials are
abrasive and could damage your unit!
What does
this mod do ?
A: Enables all PSX Backups to play with no swap trick or
patch (PSX imports need patching on PAL
system). With Action Replay 2 (PAL) or Game Shark 2 (US) play all PS2
backups including import
backups with a very simple swap trick. The AR2/GS2 stops the disc and
allows you to eject while
replacing the boot CD with the backup. Does not support Original PS2/PSX
Imports.
Can I play PS2 backups without the Neo Mod?
A: This is possible but the NEO mod makes it so your PS2
is not in 20 pieces :) To play games without one you must dis-assemble
your unit and leave it that way! Don't forget the mods purpose is to
make it all as neat as possible, and you can play PSX backups without
swap too !
What
is the difference between NEO & NEO 2?
A: Neo 2 is a Code designed specifically for the AR2/GS2
method. Features include Intelligent SCE
signal (vast improvement solving most of the clicking problems) &
Auto Disc Detect (Knows if disc is
CDR / PS2 / PSX therefore no need to hold reset for 3-4 seconds).
Will
I need to patch my games to get them to work?
A: Only PSX Imports on PAL machine. Use the Patch-It
Tool.
Will
it play PS2 games that are already patched ?
A: Yes
Where
can I buy this amazing chip and who will install it?
A: It is available to buy from this site right now, and
we install them as well! Buy
A Playstation2 Mod Chip
Can I install a Mod
Chip Myself?
Sure you can, as long as you are able to follow
instructions, have a steady hand and a needle point soldering iron.
{NOTE THE PS2 CHIP IS MORE DIFFICULT TO INSTALL THAN THE ORIGINAL
PLAYSTATION} If you are not familiar with soldering, you should NOT
attempt to install a chip on your own, As some of the points are very
close together and it is easy to "slop" solder onto parts that
could potentially Fry your unit! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Where Can I
find Instructions for installing the chip?
We have detailed installation instructions for ALL versions of U.S.
consoles on our site
Does the NEO
Mod work in any of the JAP consoles ?
A: It has tested working in the JAP SCPH 10000/15000
& 18000 but NOT the 15000 TI
Summary of
NEO 2:
Plays PSX Originals / Backups With No Swap - Auto Boot
Plays PS2 Originals / Backups Using AR2/GS2 - Auto Boot
Plays ALL PS2/PSX Games Tested Without Exception
New Intelligent SCE Code
No Special Patches Needed
Compatible With JAP/US/PAL
Do I get a money back guarantee
this will work?
A:YES, If you are not completely satisfied with any of
our products, you can simply return them and we will give you a full
refund, no questions asked! If you had a mod chip installed by us and it
isn't functioning properly send us your unit and we will replace the
chip or remove it and refund your money! Even if you tried to install it
yourself and messed it up by melting wires or whatever, send it back and
we'll replace the chip for free. {However, your PS2 may also need
replacing at that point!}
What If you Guys
Screw Up My Playstation, During Installation?
A: Though it hasn't happened yet, We would make whatever
arrangements necessary to replace your unit! We take full-responsibility
of caring for your unit while in our possession. You never have to worry
that we will mess it up and not fix it for you. That would be morally
incorrect, and certainly no way to run a business!
If I Send You
my Playstation, How Can I Be Sure I Will Ever See it Again?
A; That is certainly a question worth asking! Who
wouldn't be nervous sending their expensive game console to someone they
never met?! We can assure you that we aren't in the business of ripping
people off! Though it may seem risky, We assure you that everyone who
has ever sent us their unit for installation, has gotten their unit
back, in the same condition they sent it in! {except with the chip
installed, of course:) You have our shipping address when you send in
your unit and it isn't a P.O. Box, it is an actual street address.
If you don't get it back you can send Rocco and Louie over to teach us a
thing or two! :)
I hear
clicking noises what's wrong ?
A: We use capacitors in our installations so this won't
happen to our customers but if someone else installed it and you hear
that noise this is why.
Some reports of different lasers having different levels of success.
This has been addressed in the
NEO 2 code as the SCE signal was constant instead of being put into
sleep mode. We're still getting
guys saying that the chip screws the laser etc etc. We've tested the
laser WITHOUT the mod and the
CDR read quality is awful on some models. We've had many PS2's that when
chipped worked
perfectly fine immediately. We've also had some that needed a simple POT
adjustment. The resistance
level is reduced by just around 300 ohms, but in 90% of machines tested
with NEO2 - NOTHING was
done to "tweak" the laser
I can't get my
back-ups to play
A: If you can't seem to get your back-ups to play but
your originals work fine, there are a number of things that could be
wrong! First off, Is the chip installed correctly? {If we put it in,, IT
IS} is the chip a neo2? have you tried all methods described on our How
to Use Your Mod Chip If you have tried all methods, well at
least method 1 and 2 , and your back-ups still won't play, The problem
may lie in your copies themselves. Did you use a good quality disk
{trust me it makes a difference!} Hold it up to a light, can you see
through it? If yes it isn't good quality. Verbatim are your best bet but
lots of others work too. Secondly, what type of CD-writer are you using?
Most all burners will work, but if it is real old, or just basically a
piece of crap, that may be your problem. Finally, check your burning
software and settings. Make sure you are using Disk At Once copying
method. Try setting the speed down on your burner, when making PS2
Games. Also try using one of our recommended burning programs. Still no
luck?! Send us an e-mail and describe your situation thoroughly, we will
try to help!
My Back-ups boot but
then freeze up!
If your back-up disks boot up but then freeze after you
press start, it is definitely your copy! It often happens during the
"loading" indicator after you press start game. Even if your
copy looks of on the computer it may not work in your PS2. This is
because your PS2 doubles as a DVD player thus making the laser eye very
sensitive to the types of media it will read. If you are experiencing
these problems it is because you have a bad copy! Either the disk you
recorded on or the burner itself didn't do a good job. Try making
another copy using the methods that we describe.
I Can't get my EA sports
Games To Work!
A: The reason EA sports games are tricky is because they
have been programmed with built in anti-piracy coding. Thus making it
difficult to make your PS2 play copies of them. However, with the mod
chip you can play ALL EA sports games made to date by using
method 2 found on our How
to Use Your Mod Chip page. If you tried that method and it
doesn't work. Check your copy!
AHHHH, Help No Disks Are
Working!!!
A: This is of course very unfortunate. If you installed
the chip yourself. Double check your connections! Then Triple Check your
connections. Also closely inspect all points to ensure you didn't get
solder where it isn't supposed to be! Thirdly, Be sure you re-connected
all wire harnesses and accessory cables upon re-assembly. If all of
these things have been checked out, try to pin-point the problem. use
the process of elimination. does the power light come on? will the tray
eject? What do you see on the T.V. screen when you power on? Can you
hear the CD spinning? Is the CD clean? How About the Laser? O.K. so
you've checked everything and still no luck, Take notes on everything you've tried and exactly
what the result was when you tried it then drop us a line and tell us your situation, one of our
technitians will try to help you. You also always have the
option of sending it to a repair shop or even back to Sony, And pay
them to fix it! (remove the chip before sending it to Sony, even though they will probably know what happened by the marks left on the board from the chip installation.
It is kind of a slap in the face if they get a unit with a chip still in it)
What
microchip is this based on and how many wires ?
A: 1 x 12c508 & 8 Wires
